In August 1987 we held the groundbreaking for Phase III of our building program.  The plans have been drawn to add a library, new church office and educational wing; handicapped facilities, a historical foyer, and the James Carter, Sr., Memorial chapel to be refurnished and remodeled. Plans have been drawn up for a Day Care, Nursery, and Senior Citizen’s Day Care.  Presently we are waiting for bank loans. The Mt. Period Development Corp. was organized in 1987, for the purpose of redevelopment of the community, from Miller Avenue to Kimball Place. 

 

The Lord blessed us to add a library. December 25, 1987, the library was dedicated and named “The Hester Harper Library”.  This was done in honor of years of service as Educational instructor and her work as Director of Christian Education at Mt. Period.  We also added an educational wing, including eight classrooms, a superintendent’s office and a Mission office.  To God be the glory for the things He has done. With the vision given to the Pastor, Jerry M. Carter, Sr., adjoining properties as well as property on Mound St. and Miller Ave.’s have been acquired.  This property is the future site of a Senior Citizen’s Building.

 

On May, 04, 2003 Bro. Ronald Elmore Acknowledged calling to preach the gospel ministry Preached introductory sermon June 15, 2003. Under the unction of the Holy Spirit, Pastor Carter anointed and appointed Rev. Ronald E. Elmore to be Co-Pastor of our Church. Rev. Elmore passed the Ordination with very high marks, (99.5) and was ordained  Sunday May 19, 2013.  The Reverend Charles Tatum Preached for this ordination service.

December 2, 2018:  Pastor J. Matthew Carter, Sr. who had Pastored for some 49 years was called home to be with the Lord.  Thursday December 13, 2018:  Memorial Service held for Pastor J. Matthew Carter, Sr. at Mt. Period Baptist Church.  The Reverend Tommy L. Hicklin preached the Memorial Service. Home going service held at Refuge Baptist Church, Friday December 14, (his birthday).  The Reverend Dr. Jerry Carter, Jr. (Son) was the Eulogist, (Preacher.)   

 

Sunday March 31, 2019:  The Reverend Ronald E. Elmore, Co-Pastor,  was installed as the Senior Pastor of Mt. Period Missionary Baptist Church.  The Rev. Dr. Jerry Carter, Jr. Preched the Installation Sermon.
